How to actually drift on a touchscreen in Neon Drift City

June 24, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Drifting on a phone feels awful for about twenty minutes, and then something clicks. In Neon Drift City the whole game is built around long controlled slides, so it's worth pushing through that early clumsy stage.

First thing I'd change is the controls. The default tilt steering is fine for straights but terrible for precise drift entry. Switching to on-screen buttons gave me way more consistency, especially on tight hairpins.

The trick is to brake-tap just before the corner, not during it. That kicks the back end out, and then you steer into the slide to hold it. Holding the drift fills your boost, so a long clean slide out of a corner sets up a fast straight.

Don't chase perfect laps at first. Just practice one corner until you can drift it the same way every time, then move to the next. Muscle memory does most of the work once you stop fighting the car.
